This activity brings together two things toddlers love:
👉 water
👉 repetition through song
It’s a playful way to explore movement, sound, and cause-and-effect—all through something simple.
Using Five Speckled frogs book, you can turn a simple story into a full sensory experience that helps your child hear, see, and explore new words.

💧 How to do it

Fill a small bin, bowl, or sink with a little water.
Add:
- toy frogs (or any small toys)
- a cup or spoon for scooping
As you sing 5 Little Speckled Frogs, gently drop the frogs into the water.
You can:
- help your child drop them in
- let them splash and explore
- repeat the song as many times as they enjoy
👉 There’s no right way to do it—just play and follow their lead.
🐸 Keep it flexible
Don’t worry about following the song exactly.
At this age, your child is learning through:
- watching
- repeating
- exploring
If they just want to splash the whole time—that’s perfect too.
✨ Make it playful
You can:
- go slow and dramatic when a frog “jumps”
- make silly sounds
- pause and let your child anticipate what happens next
Small moments like this build connection and attention.
🧠 What they’re learning
Through this activity, your child is building:
- early language through repetition
- sensory awareness through water play
- coordination through dropping and scooping
💬 A gentle reminder
You don’t need to finish the song or control the activity.
👉 The goal isn’t to “do it right.”
👉 The goal is to enjoy it together.
