Halloween is one of my favorite seasons to teach through play. As a sensory teacher and toddler class leader, I know how much little ones love exploring spooky (but not scary!) activities. The problem? So many “Halloween crafts” online look beautiful on Pinterest, but in real life, they’re too complicated, too messy, or just not toddler-friendly.
That’s why I’ve pulled together this list of Halloween crafts for toddlers that are simple, quick, and class-tested. Some are the big Pinterest classics you’ll see everywhere, but others are ones I’ve personally done in my toddler classes and at home with my son, Manu. If it’s here, it’s because I’ve seen it work with real toddlers and short attention spans.

🎃 1. Pumpkin Paper Plate Craft
Let your toddler paint a paper plate orange, then glue on cut-out shapes for eyes and a mouth. Manu loved creating his first pumpkin face this way, and it’s a great chance to sneak in shape recognition while crafting.
2. Paper Plate Spider Craft 🕷
Paint a paper plate black, glue on googly eyes, and add pipe cleaners for legs to make a friendly Halloween spider.
🟢 3. Monster Painting
Green paint + thick paper + googly eyes = endless fun. Toddlers paint freely, then stick on eyes to turn blobs into silly monsters. Quick, low-prep, and always a hit.
🪒 4. Shaving Cream Pumpkin Painting
Spray shaving cream in a tray, swirl in orange food coloring, then press cardstock on top to create marbled pumpkin prints. Messy but contained — and such a fun sensory + art combo.
👀 5. Jell-O Monster Eyes (Edible Craft)
This was one of my most popular Mommy & Me class activities – an edible Halloween Craft for Toddlers! Fill a tray with purple or green Jell-O, hide raisins or plastic eggs as “monster eyes,” and let toddlers squish, scoop, and play. Safe, silly, and oh-so-satisfying.

Dip Halloween cookie cutters (pumpkins, ghosts, bats) into washable paint and stamp away. Great for fine motor practice and a fun way to make your own Halloween wrapping paper.

Set out washable paint and mini pumpkins, then let your toddler explore colors and textures as they paint their own mini pumpkins. Use acrylic paint if you want to save your design or washable paint if you’re going to wash and repeat the activity multiple times.

I’ll be honest — I’m not usually a fan of handprint art, because toddlers benefit more from open-ended play. But since this one is such a beloved keepsake, I had to include it for moms who love capturing memories
Dip your child’s hand in white paint, stamp it on black paper, and add googly eyes for a ghost. A classic keepsake craft you’ll treasure for years.

Paint your toddler’s foot black, stamp it sideways on paper, and add googly eyes + fangs. Another keepsake-worthy activity that’s equal parts adorable and spooky.

Mix baking soda into orange paint, let toddlers brush it onto paper pumpkins, then “magically” activate the fizz by dipping their brush in vinegar.

Use a small pumpkin, dip it in orange paint, and stamp onto paper to make pumpkins. Add green stems with paint or markers or using black paint draw the jack-o-lantern face – this is a classic and a Pinterest favorite!
