This simple number-matching game helps preschoolers connect numerals with meaning through hands-on play. It’s open-ended, adaptable, and easy to repeat throughout the month using different materials.

MATERIALS
(Choose one setup or mix them)
- Number cards (1–10)
- Loose parts for counting
- Small bowls, muffin tin, or tray
- Optional: clothespins, stickers, or dot markers
HOW TO PLAY
- Place the number cards on a tray or table.
- Set out loose parts nearby.
- Invite your child to:
- Match the correct number of items to each card OR
- Place items directly on top of the number.
- Allow your child to count slowly and adjust as needed.
- Model counting aloud only if support is needed. Let exploration lead.
There’s no rush to “get it right.” The learning happens through repetition and movement.
VARIATIONS (Pinterest-Popular & Easy)
- Sticker Match: Add dot stickers to match the number
- Clip & Match: Clip clothespins to each number
- Hidden Numbers: Hide number cards in a sensory bin and match after finding them
- Movement Match: Run to collect the correct number of items
