Description

My Elementary Years · Level 6 — The Play Plan for First Grade (Ages 6–7)

This is the year everything becomes real. Real books. Real paragraphs. Real math problems. Real research. Real friendships, real conflicts, real repairs. Your six-year-old is no longer just getting ready for school — they are a first grader, ready to take ownership of their learning in bigger, braver ways.

The Play Plan · First Grade gives you 10 story-anchored themed units of daily, hands-on learning built specifically for ages 6–7. It follows a real school-year rhythm: an optional August bridge, then nine academic units from September through May. Each unit is self-contained: a theme, four weeks of Monday-through-Friday activities, a weekly picture book, and a closing reflection page. One activity a day, about 25–30 minutes each. Skip a day, swap days, go deeper when they love something — it is built to flex around your real life.

Every activity strengthens one of six core skill areas:

Reading & Writing — reading on their own, fluency, comprehension, sentence writing, paragraph writing, journaling, and real authorship

Math & Operations — place value to 100s, addition and subtraction within 100, time, money, measurement, and an introduction to fractions

Science & Inquiry — real investigations, hypotheses, experiments, data recording, observation, and conclusions

Social Studies & World — American history, geography, civics, cultures, research, and becoming a citizen of the world

Arts & Performance — art techniques, music, drama, storytelling, authorship, and performance

Big Kid Skills — self-management, responsibility, real research, project work, and second-grade readiness

Inside the 10 units: Welcome Back · The Big Year Begins · Investigating the World · Our Country, Our History · Numbers Get Big · Words Build Worlds · Heart Smarts · Reading Like a Pro · Time, Money & Measurement · Make It, Tell It, Show It.

You don’t need to recreate a first-grade classroom. Home learning still works best when it is real, hands-on, connected to your child’s life, and rooted in story. What you need is a simple rhythm that helps your child read, write, solve, research, create, reflect, and step into second grade with confidence.
