Snowflake Collage DIY for Preschoolers

Create a Beautiful Snowflake Collage with Your Preschooler

Bring the magic of winter indoors with this snowflake collage DIY — a simple, low-prep art invitation that encourages creativity, fine-motor practice, and independent expression. Kids will love exploring textures, shapes, and sparkle as they create their own snowy masterpiece.

This activity is part of our December Independent Art Station — where children are invited to explore materials freely, make creative choices, and build confidence through process-based art.

🧺 Supplies to make Snowflake Collage DIY

Set up your tray with a few inviting materials:

  • Blue or white construction paper
  • Pre-cut paper snowflakes (or cut your own!)
  • Glue sticks or small bowls of glue with brushes
  • Child-safe scissors

💡 Tip: Present each material in a small container or section of a tray — giving your child choice and independence as they create.

🎨 Instructions

  1. Prepare the background:
Lay out the blue paper as your “sky.”
  2. Create snowflakes:
Add paper snowflakes or let your child cut their own simple shapes.
  3. Glue and layer:
Encourage them to layer materials — glueing snowflakes first, then adding cotton or foil for depth.
  4. Explore textures:
Invite your child to tear tissue paper or pull apart cotton balls to make “snow.”
  5. Display and discuss:
  6. Add sparkle:
Sprinkle sequins or glitter to make the snow shine.
When it’s dry, hang your collage in a window or on an art wall to celebrate its creation.

🌱 Learning Through Art

This winter art craft supports:

  • Fine motor skills: cutting, tearing, and gluing strengthen hand muscles.
  • Creativity: promotes imagination and open-ended exploration.
  • Sensory awareness: exploring soft, shiny, and crinkly materials.
  • Confidence: every collage is unique — there’s no “wrong way” to create!
