Pom Pom Sensory Bottle for Baby using Oil and water

Engage your baby during playtime with this easy sensory bottle using pom poms and baby oil.

This sensory bottle is great for tummy time activities with babies that are not yet sitting, great for object tracking with older babies and so much fun for mom to make!

Sensory bottles main benefit is the direct connection to sensory play. Sensory play is a hands on way to expose children to the world around them and allow their brains to make important connection. Sensory bottles are used as an emotional regulator in toddlers, it is a great tool for tummy time activities for babies and it is use for language development in all children. Sensory bottles simply are a great sensory tool to make and enjoy.

So let’s get started!

Supplies Needed:

  • Sensory bottle (plastic bottle preferably with a flat top like a VOSS water bottle or like mine which I got from Amazon)
  • Small pom-poms
  • Glitter
  • Baby Oil
  • Food Coloring

How to make a pom pom sensory bottle:

Step 1: Prepare the liquids

For this pom pom sensory bottle we are going to use the baby oil to slow down how fast the glitter and pom poms fall down. This is slow falling effect is what makes sensory bottles so addicting to make.

How much oil or water ratio, depends on what you like. Just tests it but if you want to follow what j did I did about 1/4 of oil. Part because I was running out and also because my son spilled some while over the bottle with water.

Then add a drop of food coloring. A drop! If you out too much then the water will get super dark and you won’t be able to see the pom-poms. If you over do it then dump out some water and add fresh water.

The food color will only color the water, showing a clear separation from the baby oil.

Step 3: add the embellishments

Now comes the fun creative part! The there-is-no-wrong part.

Add in the glitter and pom-poms now. How much? I would say start with about 8 pom poms and 1 tablespoon of glitter. Close the bottle, shake it, and see if you see enough glitter flowing. The glitter tends to disappear a bit sometimes.

Don’t over due it with the pom-poms because you want to have enough space for the pom-poms to flow up and down as you shake and turn the bottle.

Here is how mine turned up! I chose purple food coloring, blue and purple.pom poms and purple glitter.
