This post is all about a pot of gold slime recipe to make a Slime for St. Patrick’s Day.
How do you make metallic slime?
There are two ways you can make this gold metallic slime. The first option and the most common out there in Pinterest land is to buy metallic glue in gold. But, what if you don’t have that? well, that’s what happened to me. I had clear glue but not the Elmer’s gold glue which is rare to find and painful to to look for.
Instead, what you need to make this glitter slime look shimmery and gold I used a splash of gold paint, paired with my favorite clear glue recipe.
I added a drop of food coloring in yellow to brighten the yellow. (this is a totally optional step.
What if you don’t have metallic paint?
If you do not have metallic paint, you can still make a DIY pot of gold slime but it won’t shimmer. This was the case when I used yellow food coloring and tried to make it puffy with shaving cream that it lost the shimmer effect.

Pot Of Gold Slime Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup of clear glue
- 1 Tablespoon of Gold Metallic Paint
- 1 tsp Borax
- 1 Cup of Hot Water (divided in 2 bowls)
- 3 drops of yellow food color (optional)
Instructions
- Boil 1 cup of water.
- Once the water is boiled, mix 1 cup of clear school glue with 1/2 cup of the hot water
- Mix with a spatula or in a mixer to combine the water and glue together.
- On a separate bowl, add 1 teaspoons of borax and combine with 1/2 cup of boiling water.
- Mix well until the borax is dissolved.
- Add the borax mixture to the glue mixture 1/4 cups at a time (we did about 5 spoonfuls until the glue was no longer sticking to the sides of the cup)
- Stir with a spoon slowly to get the glue to absorb the borax mixture.
- Once the water has cool down a bit, start mixing the glue with your hand. I like to squeeze and stretch to allow the glue to spread apart and absorb any liquid.
- Continue this process of squeezing the glue with the palm of your hand.
- Continue stretching the slime until t some of the liquid has been absorbed and the slime is no longer sticky.
