It’s time to welcome spring with a new nature playdough recipe!
Here is the easiest spring playdough recipe you can make at home or at school to welcome this new season.
Playing with nature playdough helps strengthen fine motor skills in many ways. All that rolling, squeezing, pinching, and patting is great for little hands and fingers.
Fine motor skills are great skills for pre-writing skills. It allows a child to hold pens and pencils correctly and to be able to do up buttons and zips.

Supplies:
- 1 cups of flour
- 1/2 cup of Boiling Water
- 2 Tbsp of salt
- 1 Tsp Cream of Tartar
- Bowl
- Spatula
- Tray (optional)
- Fresh Flower petals (we used tulips but you can use any flower)
What Flowers to use?
For this nature playdough, you need to use fresh flowers.
The colorful petals will transfer their pigment colors into the dough changing its color as your child plays with it.
Choose a variety of colors that your kids can add to their playdough. If the petals are too big, like in our case, use scissors to cut them into smaller sizes.
How to make nature Playdough
Boil 1/2 a cup of water or microwave it to speed up the process. You want to have warm water for this recipe.
While the water is boiling, take a separate bowl add all of the dry ingredients and mix well. (Flour, salt, cream of tartar)
Add in the water
Add in the boiling water and mix with a spatula.
Once the water cools down a bit, you can start kneading the dough with your hands.
When you have a good consistency, add some flour onto your cutting board and knead some more.
If the dough sticks to your fingers it needs more flour. Add a little bit at a time to not dry the dough.
If the playdough breaks up and crumbles, it is too dry. Just add a little bit of water.

Once the playdough has the right consistency, provide some petals, fresh flowers, and toddler scissors, and let your child add the petals to the flour.
As the petals get mixed in, the playdough can get stained by the petals and create streaks of color (depending on the flowers you used) we had red tulips that worked great for this activity.
Press in the petals and fold the playdough to combine the petals into the dough.
